Rushing essentials start with your bottom line.
The primary essentials are yours. These are what define success for you: the criteria you already know, plus the qualities we determine together. Our practice, our originality, and our success are built from an intimate understanding of the parameters (time, money, space, entitlement, maintenance, or many more) unique to your project. This is where true innovation and real project success begin.
Rushing essentials are more than “just” engineering.
Because project requirements are so diverse, our essential skills and services are too; our staff includes engineers, estimators, builders, commissioners, managers, and more. Our approach celebrates this diversity of need and expertise, and inspires the creative detail, the unusual application or system, or the new method for procurement that underlie your project success.

Minimizing the use of natural resources is essential for every project.
Rushing principals have pioneered sustainability approaches and solutions. Core to our practice is energy modeling early in design, creating a foundation for team analysis of specific design concepts as well as the modeling required for code compliance and LEED energy optimization. With strong working relationships with utility officials, our work includes identifying and harvesting utility incentives which can shape a project’s direction early in the design process. Rushing also offers the management and leadership required for formal LEED certifications.
Code strategy is integral to design effort from day one.
The governing codes that drive a building’s ultimate design are complex, changing, and inconsistently interpreted by both design professionals and plan reviewers. Rushing principals are at the forefront of building, energy, fire, mechanical, and electrical code development. We deliver essential code integration from the start, and offer insights into designing to code, partnering with code officials, crafting code language, and gaining approval for variances and innovative designs.
Quality estimating is understanding the final cost at the beginning.
Rushing engineers know from experience how to best package your project for real-world bidding. We understand how contractors perceive and then price construction risks. We can close the risk gap by acting on nuances of construction and procurement, coupling those with how and when the project will be bid and by whom, and helping oversee the contractors.
The best systems are engineered with the construction process in mind.
Mechanical and electrical systems are tangible, substantial components of every building; understanding how the parts and pieces come together in the field is critical. Rushing engineers have years of direct construction experience. We understand how pipe fitters, sheet metal workers, controls specialists, and others physically craft their work, and we design to those realities.
Success demands managing the 30% of your system that’s ordered rather than built on site.
Before construction starts, equipment must be accurately specified, selected, and procured. Rushing scrutinizes how the design gets translated to equipment specifications, which manufacturers are appropriate, and how the subcontractors price and manage equipment procurement. Rushing also procures equipment directly for owners and contractors when this strategy adds value to the process.
Buildings aren’t complete until they work as intended (or better!).
System functional performance expertise is a core capability at Rushing—our work doesn’t stop when the construction documents are complete. We’ve functionally tested and fully commissioned our system designs as well as others’. We know how to ensure systems have been tested, balanced, integrated, and set up for successful operations and maintenance.
